Luc Déry became involved in film after obtaining a MBA specializing in media administration from York University in Toronto in 1992. As vice-president of acquisitions for Aska Film and Malofilm Distribution, he developed extensive experience in film marketing, acquisition, and distribution, buying and selling films from around the world.
In 1997, Luc joined Qu4tre par Quatre films and began producing. He produced with Joseph Hillel La Moitié gauche du frigo (The Left-Hand Side of the Fridge) from director Philippe Falardeau (winner of the Best Canadian First Feature at the 2000 Toronto International Film Festival), as well as André Turpin's Un crabe dans la tête (Shoft Shell Man), winner of 7 Jutra Awards and screened at the Sundance Film Festival in 2002. He also produced Patrick Demers' award-winning short film Décharge, as well as Mensonges (by Louise Archambault) and snooze (by Stéphane Lafleur).
In 2002 Déry sets up his own company, micro_scope. There he co-produces Gary Burns' A Problem with Fear. The film opened 'Perspective Canada' at the Toronto Film Festival and was part of the Berlin Film Festival's official selection. The following year Luc teams up with French production house Haut et Court and co-produces Bertrand Bonello's Tiresia, which was part of the official competition at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.
Between 2004 and 2007, Luc produces Familia (Louise Archambault), Congorama (Philippe Falardeau) and Continental, un film sans fusil (Stéphane Lafleur).
During the 2006 Toronto Film Festival, Luc receives the first ever CFTPA Producer Award, an award given by his peers to an outstanding producer with a film in the festival. He is on the board of the Quebec producers association and on the advisory board of TIFF’s Industry Office.
Luc and his team are now finishing post-production on Philippe Falardeau's next feature, C’est pas moi, je le jure!, adapted from Bruno Hébert's critically-acclaimed novel.
